INJ-254 TOYOTA 2.5L Mechanical & Electrical Diagnostics

The Toyota RAV compact SUV was first introduced to the North American market in 1995. Since then it has gone through several changes. In this class we will be looking at the 2013 to current model, generation 4. This model uses the 2.5 litre 2AR-FE engine. Early third generation models – 2005 to 2012, used the 2AZ-FE 2.4 litre inline 4 cylinder engine. But in 2009 they started using the same 2AR-FE engine used in the current model. The 2AR-FE engine uses variable valve timing to improve performance and fuel economy. The RAV 4 is available in front wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The RAV4 Hybrid is All-wheel drive and uses an electric motor to drive the rear wheels. The non-hybrid all-wheel drive system electronically distributes torque to the rear wheels based on inputs from several vehicle ECUs.

When components of the system are replaced a recalibration is required. The RAV4 uses electric power steering assist. Customers may complain of low power assist at times that reacts normally after the vehicle has been driven for a short time. This may be a normal condition under certain operating conditions. In this class we will look at these and other systems and common issues with the RAV4.
